disco - Fixing Leaking Inake Manifold Heater, New Front Left O2 Sensor (again), USB and 3.5 mm Jack

An oxygen sensor failed previously. I went ahead and replaced all four 02 sensors in one shot. This worked for a day then I got another check engine light code. I drove it around this way for a week before confirming that bank 1, sensor 1 (front left) sensor was not providing any readings. Darn, that was a brand new sensor.

I looked around the engine bay and found the root cause. Hot coolant runs to a small plate on the bottom of the throttle body. This is supposed to keep ice from forming on the throttle body and intake manifold. Strange, never seen that on any of my vehicles before. Regardless of whether this part is needed, it was leaking cooleant. The coolant should have falled straight down and harmlessly landed on the engine.

Of course that didn't happen. With the fan running, the leaking coolant was pushed backward and landed directly on the front left oxygen sensor. Turns out coolant can kill an oxygen sensor, even just on the outside of the sensor. Something about the sensor comparing levels from inside the exhaust to outside.

I replaced that stupid little leaking plate on the throttle body. While in there, I replaced a leaky hose and tighted up a couple other connections that were seeping coolant.

I have put about 500 miles on the truck since then and have not had any rough running or check engine lights.
