rv - Yet another water heater drain valve
A few years ago I replaced the water heater drain valve with a quarter turn unit. This worked great initially. The water heat itself was original and in bad shape. I eventually replace the water heater tank itself but just moved the drain valve over to the new tank. Fast forward a couple years and the drain valve is way to hard to turn. Presumably it is corroded on the inside. I finally broke the brass handle on the drain valve.
I installed a new quarter turn ball valve. This time I used a valve typically used on compressed air systems. I don't have any illusions it will last longer than the prior one. But the handle is longer, the valve is available locally, and it looks like the ball twists on a bed of plastic / nylon. Hopefully this means the ball valve won't corrode or at least not as quickly.
