fjr - Throttle Tamer

The first thing I noticed about the FJR on my test ride was how sensitive the throttle was. I thought it was just me... just that I was used to vintage bikes that lacked throttle response. After driving the bike for a couple months I was still not used to the throttle. At a standstill, when giving it gas, I almost always get underway in a jerky or far too quick manner. Once I am moving the throttle is fine, but first gear is a bear.

A quick search of the internet confirmed that I was not alone. Lots of people had the same problem. Enough people as a matter of fact that an aftermarket company was selling a new throttle hand grip dubbed the "Throttle Tamer."

Fitting the new throttle was not too bad. You have to remove the rubber hand grip. This is best accomplished using compressed air under the grip while pulling it off. Once that is off, the installation takes about 1 minute.

Once fitted I took the bike out for a test drive. The throttle is certainly easier to control in first gear. I find that I am no longer lurching forward as I get underway. I have much more control in first. I think this modification is well worth the money and time. A touchy throttle in first gear is a minor grip but an easy fix.
