rv - New Speakers

The original speakers were broken. I managed to find one new front speaker on ebay, but it only last a year then it failed too. Rather than continuing to try working with the original 10 ohm spearks, I opted for modern 4 ohm speakers.

The real work was installing a new head unit. Installing the speakers was relatively quick. I mounted them in the same place as the originals. The only issue was that the new rears were about half an inch deeper, and the new fronts were the same depth but the magnet was substantially larger in radius. As a result, I had to remove some spray foam and even then the speakers stick out a little.

The original speakers in the RV were 3.5" up front and 4x10" in the back. I stuck with that size.

The new speakers work great! I think the Kickers actually sound better (can't believe I am saying that). That shouldn't be a big surprise though because even though 4x10 isn't an optimal size for sound quality, its still more area for mid-bass than a 3.5" JL's up front. Don't get me wrong, the JL's up front sound good, probably the best sounding 3.5" full range speaker you will find, just keep in mind they are tiny.

I am thrilled to have these installed. It really makes the RV more enjoyable having nice sounding speakers that get plenty loud.
