The prior fresh water pump was from 1991. It had a good life but it was loud and it leaked water from the pump body. It was time to replace it. I ended up buying a FlowMax DS-01233-D water pump. It runs at a slightly higher rate than my old pump but also uses slightly more amperage. The install was relatively straight forward. I need to relocate the pump further towards the centerline of the RV to allow for the pump filter and fittings to clear. The old pump came with a 90 degree elbow, the new one uses straight connectors.
Now that it is all installed I am extremely impressed at how quiet the pump is. I was not expecting this much of a reduction in noise, especially in a pump that was so cheap. The new pump is audible, but very quiet and not at all an unpleasant sound. It is barely audible from the outside of the RV where the old pump was clearly pronounced.I think this has a lot to do with the fact that this new pump uses a completely rubber base and the rubber is very flexible. The old pump uses an aluminum base with 4 rubber feet. I opted to use skip the old aluminum base and use the rubber base that came with the new pump even though this meant drilling 4 new mounting holes. I don't regret this decision at all.
I just hope this new pump lasts as long as the old pump.
After completing this job, I also tightened up all three engine v-belts. I replaced them a week ago and they streched out and started squealing. After running through the annoying process of applying tension to each of them, the squealing is gone.
