The EV6 isn't bad in the snow, but it wasn't great either. Last winter we spun out. We didn't hit anything, but it was scary regardless. I am a big fan of winter tires. I personally don't see the AWD / 4WD as the sole solution to snow. Who cares if you can acceralate with all for tires. I am more concerned about stopping and turning, and AWD doesn't help you there. Only snow tires do.

I have snow tires on my RWD Chevy van and my FWD 1974 Saab Sonett. They are both great in the snow, though they have different characteristics. The van is heavy and less likely to lose traction, but once you do, you are simply along for the ride. The Saab is light (1900 lbs) with high horse power and super light flywheel. It is somewhat quick to lose traction but exceptionally quick at getting it back. Believe it or not, that combo is both easy and fun to drive in the snow.

The EV6 is heavy. Not as much as my van, but its up there. Thus if I lose traction, the car is going to slide for a while. So I want to avoid losing traction in first place. Time for snow tires.

I got the same show tire as I use on my van. I didn't seek them out per-se. They were one of the 4 or so options that Tire Rack had in the right size. Having use Bridgestone Blizzaks on my van, I know that work great in the snow. My only complaint is that go through tread quickly. But frankly, if that is my only complaint that is pretty good. I can always buy another set, but I can't just buy better winter traction with low noise and good handling.

I opted to get a wheel + tire package. I am not the type to bring my car to the shop twice a year to have them transfer to the tires to my factory wheels. But what about TPMS? I purchase the TPMS sensor preinstalled from TireRack. It was not clear they would work with the Kia, especially not without additional programming. I am very happy to report that after 10 minutes or so of driving, the car correctly read the new TPMS sensors with no programming required. At least on my part. Maybe tire rack did some programming. Whatever, it works.
