TeXSive 2007 Spring
Rally |
Welcome ...
Wayne (the Rally Master) picked another perfect weekend for the TeXSive ride;
sunny, dry, and plenty of great roads. What a turnout...22 motorcycles, and
a whole lot of XS/XJ1100 Yamaha's. Here's my contribution...

The Killough
Massacre, said to have been the largest single Indian depredation in East
Texas, took place on October 5, 1838, near the site of present Old Larissa in
northwestern Cherokee County. The eighteen victims included Isaac Killough,
Sr., and members of his extended family, who had immigrated to Texas from Talladega
County, Alabama, the year before.
The massacre was the largest single Indian massacre in East Texas and also the last. It led to the expulsion of the entire Cherokee Indian Nation from Texas. Approximately 100 years later, during the Great Depression, a stone obelisk was erected by the Work Projects Administration to mark the site. In 1965 a state historical marker was dedicated there.

Dayna and Ashley, or Is it Ashley and Dayna? |
The Killough Monument is not easy to find; However, our TeXSive guide took us right there. Here are some directions if found searching the internet: 1) From the intersection of Highway 69 & Farm/Market (FM) Road 855 go west on FM 855 until you reach FM 3405. There is a sign there (or was at one time) that reads “Killough Monument” and points to the left. 2) Turn left on FM 3405 and go just about .4 miles to FM 3411. 3) Turn right on FM 3411 and go .6 miles until you reach a road with a green gate with a huge boulder on either side. That is actually FM 3431, but there is no sign there. 4) Turn left and proceed through the gate – the monument and cemetery are at the end of the road.
