Killough Memorial...

Back to Top

The Killough Massacre, said to have been the largest single Indian depredation in East Texas, took place on October 5, 1838, near the site of present Old Larissa in northwestern Cherokee County. The eighteen victims included Isaac Killough, Sr., and members of his extended family, who had immigrated to Texas from Talladega County, Alabama, the year before.

The massacre was the largest single Indian massacre in East Texas and also the last. It led to the expulsion of the entire Cherokee Indian Nation from Texas. Approximately 100 years later, during the Great Depression, a stone obelisk was erected by the Work Projects Administration to mark the site. In 1965 a state historical marker was dedicated there.

The TeXSive riders at the Killough Memorial.

Hmm...Who invited an old '75 Gold Wing to an "Eleven-Hundred" party; even Greg is repelled?
(FYI...My brother rides this out-front Honda; we made him park alone.)

Dayna and Ashley, or Is it Ashley and Dayna?

The Killough Monument is not easy to find; However, our TeXSive guide took us right there. Here are some directions if found searching the internet: 1) From the intersection of Highway 69 & Farm/Market (FM) Road 855 go west on FM 855 until you reach FM 3405. There is a sign there (or was at one time) that reads “Killough Monument” and points to the left. 2) Turn left on FM 3405 and go just about .4 miles to FM 3411. 3) Turn right on FM 3411 and go .6 miles until you reach a road with a green gate with a huge boulder on either side. That is actually FM 3431, but there is no sign there. 4) Turn left and proceed through the gate – the monument and cemetery are at the end of the road.

Motorcycle Line Up...

Back to Top

A proud line of XS1100 and XJ 1100 Motorcycles. I count 15...a lot of history in those machines.

And their riders. I'm wearing the navy blue shirt at the far left.

The 1100's just keep rolling along...

and rolling along.

This is Bob Jones' XS1100. Bob wrote a book called XS Eleven Heaven, which expresses his love for these old machines. His shop in Merriam, Kansas keeps a lot of these wonderful Yamaha's rolling.

Wow, a matching helmet...Bob is sure in Spring fashion; What a nice accessory.

Stan's '82 XJ1100J (in red) and Mark's '81 XS11SH

Outside Mark's House, before the ride.

"Who is that masked rider?" ...

"Hmm..., I don't know, but He rides a silver bullet."

(FYI, It's Hippie Dave on his trusted mount Shameless Hussy.)

"Hmm, the oil goes here, I think."
What does Cheech say to Chong? "Dave's NOT here!"
Nancy, Mark, and Dave

So...This truck thinks he's fast;

"Hmm...Why is he in the fast lane"?

"The bikes are loaded I'm going to sleep. Stan, you're driving!"

"Why yes, we road all the way from Oklahoma wearing our XS Eleven hats;
Aren't they pretty?"
Katherine and John

This is a bridge.

This is the same bridge... looking forward.

"I want to thank all the little people for making this rally a big success."

Good roads, Great weather, and a Wonderful day.

"Ya'll all come back next year, ya hear."
